Without a charged battery, your car won’t even start. Modern cars rely more and more on the battery for power for such functions as anti-theft devices, heating, electrically operated windows, in-car entertainment, sat-nav, the list goes on. Yet the battery is often one of the most neglected and forgotten components in the entire car. Although today's car batteries are generally sealed units and do not require topping up with electrolyte periodically (see your vehicle handbook for more details), there are some things you can do to ensure trouble free battery operation.

Connection
The battery is most commonly located under the bonnet, or under the seat, or in the boot in some applications. The two lead posts on top of the battery are called the "Terminals". Should the terminals become corroded, this may impair the electrical contact. The terminals can be kept corrosion free by applying a light film of grease. To avoid damaging the vehicles electrical system it is imperative that the terminals are connected to the appropriate electrical lead. If in doubt, consult your car's handbook. |

Charging
The alternator and drive belts keep your battery charged as you drive. Should the battery become discharged, it should be removed from the vehicle and connected to a mains-powered charger. Your vehicle's charging system is not designed to recharge a dis-charged battery, merely to top up a fully powered battery.

So, if you have any concerns regarding the condition or health of your car battery then we recommend you have the battery and charging system checked as soon as possible.
